While entertainment
may not add much value during meetings, training sessions, and events
that are work focused, it often enhances events
whose goals include marketing, awareness, reward/acknowledgment,
or social bonding and, of course, fund raising. It can range from an
exclusive performance by a world famous performer for event attendees
to an afternoon of laser-tag.
The event planning committee should decide in advance how entertainment
furthers the goal of the event, what to budget for it, whether it should
be structured or flexible, whether the entertainment/activities
should be part of the host company’s branding (e.g., a competitive
mini-golf and
martini tournament for a funky sportswear or shoe company, Para-sailing
for a sun glass launch, etc.).
