The rental agencies
and venue usually require that their own technical support staff are
used for an event. It is important to know in advance what is the hourly
rate per person, what is the minimum call out time (i.e., a technician
may only be needed for 2 hours, but the contract states that he/she
will be paid for 4), when does overtime start, what are the mandated
breaks, who is responsible for providing meals, whether set-up and take-down
must be done by the same person, and whether volunteers or outside help
can be used, or if anyone involved must be an employee of the venue
or rental company. Keep in mind that it is worth it to pay a little
extra to have the equipment
and technicians come a little early to ensure that everything is
working and meets the event’s needs.
