Although the event’s insurance contract should cover basic damages,
extra insurance may be necessary for elaborately staged events. Reviewing
the rental company’s insurance policy can also avoid expenses
for the event organizer.
At one event, a lighting tower was set up improperly and toppled over,
luckily before guests had arrived. It damaged the venue flooring and,
as well as the lights, some sound and video equipment that had been
attached to it. As the lighting company’s staff had set up the
tower, it became their responsibility to pay for the flooring
damage. If the lighting
company did not have insurance,
it would have been the event organizer who would have been responsible
for damages to the venue, as the organizer was responsible for bringing
in an uninsured company. However, event staff had hung the sound and
video equipment
on the tower and the event’s insurance had to cover those damages.
