A cruise ship
is a floating hotel. They have become increasingly elaborate, and the
newer ones have ballrooms and meeting room facilities
suitable for both mid-sized and smaller events. They are successful
venues for fundraisers, team-building/recognition retreats, sales staff
training seminars, weddings,
school and family
reunions, et cetera.
At certain times of year, cruise ships can be booked for just one night
(in port, if preferred) for local events, or for smaller, two or three
day river or coastal cruises. Port cities that are used by cruise ships
usually have good air access (frequent, direct, reasonably priced flights
in and out of most cities). Cruise
ships offer many of the financial advantages of hosting an event
in a hotel—no
extra rental costs for furniture, linens, tableware, décor, etc.,
and may provide meeting rooms and associated services (except food &
beverage) free of charge, depending on the number of rooms booked for
the event.
