Travel west of Ottawa into neighbouring Lanark County, the maple syrup
capital of Ontario! Two family-run sugar bushes offer enjoyable
maple syrup experiences throughout the seasons. Fulton’s Pancake
House and Sugar Bush, a fifth-generation sugar bush, includes a sugar
camp, walking trails with naturalist interpretation, sleigh/hay rides,
and of course, hearty maple meals! Another family business in the
nearby area, Wheeler’s Pancake House and Sugar Camp, offers similar “maple”
activities and meals in a 13,500 sq. ft. log building. Lanark County
is also home to a wealth of home-based craft and art producers willing
to open their doors to individuals and groups.
Interesting day trips into Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec are offered
through two local companies - Oakroads and Rocks & Trees Travel.
Designed for smaller groups, these trips tend to be more intimate, charming,
and leisurely in nature. Oakroads specializes in trips to Gatineau
Park, to the early mill towns along the Rideau and Mississippi rivers,
and to sites along the historic Rideau Canal. In any given month,
Rocks & Trees Travel plans a variety of day-trips into neighbouring
towns including a variety of activities: from seasonal festivals,
to studio tours and gift shops, to cheese factories, and bird-watching
excursions…to name but a few!
